"Hope is one of the Theological virtues. This means that a continual looking forward to the eternal world is not (as some modern people think) a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do.... Aim at Heaven and you will get Earth 'thrown in': aim at Earth and you will get neither." 1
I think there is a longing in us for heaven. Many writers have attempted to provide a glimpse of the cloudy, celestial plane, but few really know what it is or where it is for that matter. And well, I couldn't give you a good answer if I tried. What so many seem to be searching for is a heaven on earth, where all of their earthly desires are met and then some. So what is the need for God, if we have all we want on the earth.
Our hope is for the things that are to come really. The turmoil inside ourselves that seems to never dissipate is really an internal longing to be with God in heaven that nothing on earth can satisfy. So keep dreaming and escaping to a world that is to come. Someday your hope will come true.
